Steve Lee's Award-Winning Design Revolutionizes Floral Arrangements

The Peacock Vase, a 3D printed test tube flower vase, is designed to host dynamic, spatial, and artistic floral arrangements. The vase's unique design features twenty-one individual stems, each housing a single glass tube for water and flowers. This structure allows for easy removal and replacement of flowers without moving the vase from its original position. The design's minimal structural setting provides unlimited opportunities for floral designers to create their artwork and displays.

Steve Lee's inspiration for the Peacock Vase came from the shape of a radially spread peacock display. The vase's design, with its interconnected stems and central focal point, mimics this natural spectacle. The distinction between the vase's inner and outer layers adds depth to the overall arrangement, allowing for more dynamic and visually appealing floral displays.

The Peacock Vase is created using a combination of 3D printing and poly-resin casting. The exterior shell is 3D printed in several pieces using PLA thermoplastic, which are then assembled to create a continuous surface. Poly resin is cast inside the 3D printed shell to add stability and weight to the vase. The curvy form of the vase helps distribute the load evenly to a base surface, adding strength to the structure. The vase is then sent to a paint finish facility to receive a glossy and protective finish, ensuring durability and resistance to thermal deformation.

The Peacock Vase project started in March 2015 and was exhibited at the Hospitality Design Expo in May 2015. The design was awarded the Golden A' Furniture Design Award in 2016, a prestigious accolade granted to outstanding creations that reflect the designer's prodigy and wisdom and significantly impact the world with their desirable characteristics.
